Preparation
Standard preparation guidelines
Overview
Colonoscopy: Begin your low-fibre dietary adjustments 3 days prior to the procedure. You may safely consume clear liquids up until 3 hours prior to your appointment, at which point you must remain strictly nil by mouth (no food, fluid, or smoking).
Upper Endoscopy: Fast completely from all solid foods for 8 hours and from all liquids for 4 hours before your scheduled appointment time.
Flexible sigmoidoscopy: Fast completely from all solid foods for 8 hours and from all liquids for 4 hours before your scheduled appointment time.
Capsule Endoscopy: Follow the low-fibre diet the day before your test. From midnight on the night before your procedure, you must remain completely nil by mouth (no food, fluid, or smoking).
GLP-1 preparation guidelines
Overview
Mandatory 24-hour solid food fast: Across all four procedure types (colonoscopy, endoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, and capsule endoscopy), you must strictly fast from all solid foods, milk, and milk-based products for a full 24 hours prior to your procedure.
Clear fluids only window: During the 24 hours leading up to your procedure, you are strictly limited to approved clear liquids (water, black tea, black coffee, clear apple juice, and clear electrolyte sports drinks).
The 4-hour absolute fasting gate: For all procedures types, you must be completely nil by mouth for 4 hours prior to your arrival time. No clear fluids, water, or chewing gum are permitted beyond this point.

Prioritising your safety
As your safety is our priority, our Queensland Health day-hospital license features specific health guidelines. These criteria ensure that every patient who walks through our doors can be treated safely and recover in a streamlined day surgery environment:
Age guidelines: We care for adult and adolescent patients over the age of 14 years.
Tailored health and weight profiles: To ensure a safe recovery from modern day-surgery sedation, our facility guidelines accommodate patients with a Body Mass Index (BMI) up to 40.
A network of comprehensive care: If you have complex, long-standing medical conditions involving your heart or lungs, severe sleep apnoea, or advanced mobility needs, a day hospital may not be the ideal setting for you.
Seamless triage options: If you fall outside our day surgery scope, don't worry. You won't lose access to elite medical care. Our specialists will seamlessly coordinate your procedure at Mater Private Hospital (South Brisbane) or Sunnybank Private Hospital, ensuring you receive the right care environment for your needs.
